What attracted you to Joules and why did you choose to work for us?
I’ve been with the business for 10 years now so I was originally attracted to the potential for the brand to grow. I couldn’t have predicted such rapid and widespread growth which has been really fascinating and lots of fun to be part of. I have always been interested in fashion (guilty of some major faux pas over the years) so the product itself was also attractive to me. It’s been great to see the product range evolve over the years and I’m particularly pleased with how Menswear has grown into such strong collection that seems to improve each season.
Tell us about a typical day…
My days in the office are spent mainly liaising with agents and solicitors in relation to new store acquisitions and pipeline prospects. I also spend time working on strategy, preparing for board sign off meetings and producing new prospect reports. I also spend quite a bit of time out of the office looking at new store options and compiling town reports for future reference.
What's the best thing about working at Joules?
Being a local lad it’s great to be part of such a local business success story. Despite this success we haven’t evolved into a ‘corporate monster’ and I think the company has done well to retain its local charm and friendliness. It’s a very friendly and fun place to work.
What’s been your biggest achievement so far?
Having been part of the early organic growth I am most proud of carving out a role in what is now a much bigger business. We had one store when I started, we now have around 100 across the country and I like to think I’ve had quite a bit to do with that.
What qualities make someone successful at Joules?
I think a passion for the brand helps. A sense of humour is almost essential and a willingness to be versatile.
What do you think makes Joules unique as an employer?
The openness and availability of the senior management team and the Directors is I think refreshing, and the fact we’ve managed to hold on to our sense of family and friendliness considering the size of business we are now is unique.
What would your advice be to someone considering joining Joules?
Go for it!
