What attracted you to Joules and why did you choose to work for us?
I had been a customer in the tiny Bath store for a while and loved the brand. In previous roles, I had worked for lifestyle brands and when an opportunity came up to join the Bath team I went for it.
Tell us about a typical day…
Never boring and definitely varied which is why I love it. Usually I’m shop floor based for the majority of my day, looking at visual merchandising opportunities, serving customers and making the most of the time I have with my team. Of course, being a Store Manager means that I do have deadlines to meet and emails/reports that have to be completed, but I try to limit this time to first and last thing during the day.
What's the best thing about working at Joules?
The atmosphere. We are lucky to work in a brand that opens its doors warmly to everyone aged from 0-100 and beyond. That makes the day interesting and fun. Alongside thi,s as we are still evolving as a company, it feels like the best is yet to come with always new ideas on the horizon to look forward to.
What’s been your biggest achievement so far?
When I joined the brand, it was as the Assistant Store Manager of the newly opening Bath Store. This in itself was a massive achievement, but since then I have been lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to manage the Bristol store and, in January this year, I was offered the Manager position in Bath. I couldn’t have been more proud and this is my biggest accolade to date.
What qualities make someone successful at Joules?
A good disposition and can do attitude, someone warm and approachable, but able to focus on the important details. As a manager, a strong commercial understanding is vital alongside great people management skills.
What do you think makes Joules unique as an employer?
Joules retains a family friendly atmosphere despite its growth. Alongside this, it is a fair and equal opportunity employer. As employees, we feel valued and appreciated. This is reflected in our benefits package and the possibilities to progress and train within the brand.
What would your advice be to someone considering joining Joules?
Simply… go for it. If you love the idea of working a fun, happy environment there isn’t a better place. We work hard but it’s difficult to have a bad day when you are surrounded by every colour in the rainbow.
A bit more about you...
What is your favourite film or book?
I can’t believe that I might admit this to the world but I have an Agatha Christie addiction (I actually own over 150 copies) so anything written by her. I love crime, thriller and horror novels, but sadly am unable to watch the film equivalent - especially horror. I wouldn’t sleep for a week.
What’s the best holiday you’ve ever been on?
Probably the first trip to Italy just six weeks after I met my husband. I’m privileged that we visit often as my husband was born just outside of Florence and seeing it through his eyes is always amazing, that and the fact that he knows all the best places to eat.
What’s the best present you’ve ever received?
Corny but true… my husband and my two cats, purely because they know how to make me laugh and it’s a good day when we sit down after a long day and catch up on Corrie together.
